BEAUTY WHEN LESS IS MORE!!

Makeup now is about being a minimalist. It’s easier, more natural, simple and all around “lower maintenance”. It does not mean no makeup it means looking fresh, sporty yet luminous at the same time. What’s great about a more natural style is that it’s not chasing youth (that shouldn’t be the goal anyway); it just allows you to look like a well pulled together version of yourself. Fashion is influenced by the times, and we live in a very health and fitness-oriented society right now. That’s why we are seeing so much athletic-inspired clothing. And, of course, when we wear more casual clothes, the face has to match. It will transform you into the best version of yourself while still making you completely recognizable. I have a service called “The 5 minute face”. It is 5 products in 5 minutes making you look 5 minutes younger.
Here they are:

1. CONCEALER- Go with a colour that goes with your skin tone. Put it on the lids, under the eyes, side to nose and on and under the lip area. This high lights these areas that usually go darker with age.

2. BROW TINT- Go with a colour with is little lighter than your hair colour. Apply on lightly using the brush to gently glide the hair strands. It darkens the brows and covers the grey if you have any.

3. CURL LASHES AND USE BLACK MASCARA- This opens up the face, brings out the natural eye colour and gives a natural appearance the face.

5. USE A SOFT BRONZER OR BLUSH COLOUR- Keep it light and fresh by putting it on with a small fan brush. Remember, to put it on the cheek bones and into the hair line. This gives you a soft glow that makes you look “sun-kissed”.

6. LIPGLOSS- This is the most fun!! You can not gave enough fresh, light, fun glosses. Try any colour that goes with your personality, skin, and hair colour. A lot of glosses now have vitamins in them to keep your lips moist and soft.

Now go do this!! Try it on. Keep it fresh.

How you should shampoo your hair??!!

1. You should shampoo your hair more often if your scalp is oily. If it isn’t every other day is good.

2. You should shampoo your whole head. Work the shampoo into your hands then at the root or base area of your scalp. Work your hands every where and scrub the back to the front areas of the head.

3. You should get a lot of lather. If your shampoo doesn’t lather, you can usually tell whether your hair is getting clean by examining the tips of your fingers after scrubbing. If they are not coated in shampoo, that means shampoo is not getting to your roots. Rinse and reapply!!

4. You should keep rinsing until there are no bubbles. You need to rinse your hair a lot so there is no more shampoo residue on the hair. This way the hair will be shinier and smoother when it is blow dried.

10 Rules for a PERFECT BLOWOUT!!

1. Switch your shower line up- Use a Volume Shampoo and Conditioner to get full hair. I use PureOlogy Pure volume shampoo and condition. The hair will not be weighed down if you use these kind of products.

2. Leave the Bathroom- It might seem like the obvious place to style you hair, but if it’s humid, your blowout will be frizzy.

3. Use Fanatic 21 leave-in Conditioner- Use this leave-in spray by PureOlogy BEFORE you put any other stylers in your hair. This will help with frizz control and shine.

4. Put your products in Hair- Put your stylers on when the hair in toweled dried. Use a gel, mouse, or oils at this time and put in from base to ends. Make sure the hair has moisture in it so the products go on easier. Then, air dry for about 15 minutes. Get Dressed, make coffee.
This will freeze kinks and waves in place so they can’t be undone with a brush and dryer.

5. Always blow dry the bangs/fringe first- Use either a round brush, fingers, or paddle brush to dry the bang area.

6. Sue an ionic dryer- This kind of dryer protects the cuticle and smooths the hair while drying.

7. Count to four or five- When you let hair cool for a few seconds on the brush, it dries bouncier and fuller.

8. Air dry- When the hair is all dry take the dryer and work the dryer over the entire head to make sure everything is dry and put more fullness in the hair. It needs to be 100% dry or it will frizz.

9. Use oil/spray to put everything in place and puts moisture in the hair so it stays full and smooth

10. Go and look beautiful!!! GREAT JOB!!

Lauren Cassidy-Over 40 Female of the Year 2015
Lauren Cassidy, Chicago Chapter Member

“Over 40 Female of the Month” has been the highest level of recognition for one of our members to achieve, and every time I write about one of our women in this way, it makes me so proud of how far we have all come in the past few years since the inception of our close-knit networking community!  Shannon Bednowicz, our Chicago Chapter Director has gone so far as having a yearly “Inspiration Awards”.

Lauren Cassidy won this honor in December, 2014 so therefore is our new Over 40

Female of the month for 2015.

So here is yet another impressive story of fortitude and triumph from Lauren Cassidy, a member of our Chicago Chapter. Our members’ stories never fail to inspire me.

 In Lauren’s words:

“Just be passionate about what you do and things will happen for you. That is my mantra.

However, it was not an easy road getting there. I started out in sales in the beauty industry 25 years ago.  I was an outside sales rep for several beauty companies in the salon industry and I was very good at it but what I really wanted to do was be a hair dresser.

So, at 36 years old, I went to Pivot Point Beauty School at night for two years. I was married with two kids plus working full-time.  Then, right after I finished beauty school my husband and I divorced and I lost my sales job. That’s when I started working in the beauty salons.  I was working nights, weekends 40+ hours/week and had a 16-year old high school student babysit my children.  After about a year and a half I could not be away from my children any longer so I quit my job and started my own company called “Visions for the Art of Hair.”

I opened up without a plan, no business cards and no mission statement.  I only had 20 clients when I began and now my business is in its 11th year and growing more successful than ever!  I call it a “boutique salon” because it is small yet unique.

I specialize in cuts, colors, highlights, makeup and brow shaping and I have a multitude of haircare lines and specialty beauty and skincare products.  I built my business on my talent, drive, education and of course, other wonderful women in networking organizations. I would not be here today without fabulous clients and the women that I network with continually.

Over 40 females is a vital part of my success – I have built wonderful relationships, collaborated with many of the women and have gained many new clients from the organization. My philosophy is simple…do what you love, be passionate about it and help others along the way and you WILL be successful!”

Thanks for the honor,

Lauren Cassidy

Creating my salon brand.

I have been working on my salon brand since I openedDSCF5347 my salon 11 years ago.  It has been an evolution rather then a destination.  Here are a few good ideas I do to keep myself current and up to date.

1. Google your business-  It takes about three seconds to google something yet many of us have never googled our  businesses.  The question is would a prospect get the correct impression of you and your business?? If not tell your brand story on google.  I use pictures of clients, photo shoots of women, my hours I am open, and my brand colours and logo.  Putting your brand colors  on their can increase brand recognition.  Then apply your colours on your Website, LinkedIn, Twitter and other social media sites you use.

2.Get yourself on LinkedIn –  Talk about yourself on linkedIn with your brand story.  Put your mission statement on their so prospects get to know you and your company.  Always put pictures of your business on LinkedIn.  It create a great first impression.

3.  Keep refining your brand- It is an on going fight.  Things change so much on social media so you have to keep current.  I have built a strong network of professionals that I associate with that are experts and that can help me.   Remember your brand is never a final product.  Decide today on how you want your brand to look and feel.  It will not happen overnight but you can make steady progress if you commit to small, regular doses of self-improvement.

My Goals for 2015

My mission for this year is to work with brides and the bride maids on their special day.  I want to do beautiful hair and makeup for these brides and their wedding party.  If you have a special occasion and you want to look extra special for the evening hire me as your hair and makeup stylist.  I use a line of professional makeup that is water resistant and long lasting.  My philosophy is to give you a natural yet glamorous look but still making you feel like you.
